Setup and how to play
The Sardine Can
A wooden packing puzzle, about 9 inches tall and 4.5 inches wide: fit every fish into the can so nothing sticks out. Here's how to set it up and play it solo, head to head or as a team.
What's in the box
- Wooden sardine can frame
- Double-sided wooden fish pieces
Setup
-
Empty the can
Take every fish out of the frame and set the empty can flat on the table in front of you.
-
Mix the fish
Spread the fish out next to the can and shuffle them so nobody gets a head start. The art is on both sides, so either face can go up.
How to play
Solo against the clock
Start a timer, pack every fish in flat, and stop the clock when nothing sticks out. Try to beat your best time.
Head to head
With two cans, count down from three and race. First can packed flat wins. It's best played as a race.
Swim and solve
Like the show: hide the fish around the yard or the room, have teams collect them all, then race to pack the can. First full can wins.

This is a replica of the sardine can packing puzzle from the New School challenge, seen on Survivor: Winners at War (Season 40, Episode 9) and earlier on Kaoh Rong and Game Changers. Ours is a tabletop size so you can play it at home.
